Bangladesh has expressed hope that India will extend full cooperation in the investigation into the killing of July uprising leader and Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, following the arrest of a third suspect in Kolkata.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam said Dhaka is awaiting consular access to the arrested suspects to proceed with its own probe. “We will be able to comment in detail after consular access is granted and our investigation is carried out. Efforts are underway, and we expect India’s cooperation,” she told reporters at the foreign ministry. She added that the process of securing consular access is currently in progress.

Earlier, Bangladesh had formally requested access to the two main suspects arrested in connection with the murder. A week later, West Bengal Police’s Special Task Force detained Philip Sangma, accused of helping the main accused flee after the killing.

Islam said Dhaka remains in close contact with Indian authorities and is working to both secure access to the detainees and facilitate their return. The Ministry of Home Affairs is also involved in the process, she added.
