The Commissioner of Delhi Police, Amulya Patnaik Wednesday launched website on cybersafety “www.cybercelldelhi.in”in the presence of senior officers of Delhi Police and computer teachers of more than 200 schools across Delhi at the NDMC Convention Centre.

The website, developed by the cyber crime cell of EOW, has been conceptualized as aone-stop solution for cyber crime and cyber safety information that a citizenmay require in the routine, be it as an aware citizen or as a victim of cybercrime. The objective behind developing the website was to have a proactivecommunication with the citizens on cyber safety issues and to provide aresponsive cyber crime reporting mechanism for the victims. Thus, the websitehas elaborate segments on various types of cyber crime, their modus operandi,safety tips for citizens and on various reporting mechanisms available with thecitizens.

Someof the cybercrimes covered in the website are E-mail Hacking, fake social mediasite, debit/credit card frauds, lottery scams, fake insurance schemes, e-theftand online cheating. Various safety precautions that areneeded in order to keep oneself safe from such crimes are also mentioned. It alsohas a special section on the various “Do’s and Don’ts” for different types ofinternet users such as women, children, parents, senior citizens andbusinessmen. Videos on cyber awareness are also available on the website. Thereis a special page that provides information about all the District Cyber Cellsalong with their contact numbers across Delhi.

The website provides detailedinformation for victim of cybercrimes as to how to lodge a cyber-complaint anddocuments required for each type of cyber crime. A dedicated link has beenprovided which gives details of latest viruses that are threat to the computerand mobile devices.

Addressingthe gathering on the occasion, the Commissioner of Police emphasized upon theneed to harness technology to counter the threat of cyber crime. He stressedupon the need to bring out involvement of all stake holders, police, media,schools, civil society and individual citizens, in this collective fightagainst the growing menace of cybercrime. He also thankedschool computer teachers for their contribution inspreading cyber safety awareness by joining in the campaign undertaken by cybercrime cell.
