External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has said that a criminal case has been registered in Russia to probe the death of Yasir Javed, an Indian student who died in Kazan city following an attack on him by a group of local goons. Mrs Swaraj informed this in twitter. Javed was attacked by unknown miscreants in Kazan city on 3rd of this month and died last Tuesday at a hospital there after remaining in coma for several days.

India had sought a thorough probe and filing of a criminal case by Russian authorities into Javed’s death. The Indian Embassy in Moscow had conveyed to Russian Foreign Ministry that death of Javed, hailing from Srinagar, should be probed to punish the guilty. A team of officials from Indian Embassy in Moscow had gone to Kazan where they met investigators and police officials.
