after the conclusion of the second anniversary celebrations of the UPA-II Government, rejected Governor H R Bhardwaj’s recommendation to impose President’s rule in the state.

Talking to media after the meeting, Home Minister P Chidambaram said, “The CCPA discussed the Karnataka Governor’s report and after careful consideration decided not to accept the recommendations”.

The CCPA however has asked the union home ministry to write to the Karnataka Government bringing to its notice the issues mentioned by the Governor.
Saying that an advisory will be issued, Mr Chidambaram expressed hope that the state government will take note of it.

The centre decision not to impose president role in the state has irked state congress and JD (S) leaders who were pressuring the centre to take stern action against what they called ‘corrupt BJP government’ in Karnataka.

The BJP had threatened to launch a nation-wide agitation if the Governor’s recommendations are not rejected by the evening. Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa had also appealed to Prime Minister to reject the recommendations before embarking on his foreign trip on Monday.

The Governor had on last Sunday sent a special report to the Centre recommending dismissal of the Yeddyurappa Government and keeping the Assembly in suspended animation. Mr Bhardwaj’s recommendations followed the Supreme Court judgment quashing the disqualification of 11 BJP and 5 Independent MLAs by Speaker K G Bopaiah.
