Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that for the all-round development of India, the development of North East was must. He said that the Central Government was paying special attention to the North-Eastern region by boosting infrastructure and connectivity.

He was speaking after inaugurating Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL), a petrochemical complex, at Lepetkata, near Dibrugarh in Assam. He also dedicated to the nation, the wax plant of Numaligarh Refineries Limited.

Mr. Modi said that the two projects being dedicated to the nation today, are important for two reasons, for the value addition they would achieve for natural raw materials and for the employment opportunities they would create for the youth of Assam. In this context, the Prime Minister mentioned his PRAGATI initiative, which he said is giving impetus to stalled projects worth lakhs of crore rupees.

The Prime Minister said that the initiatives of the Union Government, including MUDRA and Start-up India, were aimed at creating fresh opportunities for the youth. He said employment opportunities have to be created not just in big cities but in smaller towns too.

Mr. Modi rued about delays in first conceiving the projects, then in announcing and foundation laying and further delays in completion, all of which result in cost escalation. Prime Minister said his government has unshackled several stalled projects across the country and he has been personally interacting with state chief secretaries on a monthly basis to monitor progress and remove hurdles.

Kick-starting electioneering in the Tea dominated area of Assam, PM Narendra Modi today said Assam is greatly known for its Tea and Congress government has practically done nothing for development of the Tea tribes of the state. He criticised the Congress and it’s leadership for not implementing the existing laws for their security. He appealed to the people to support BJP to form the next government in the state. He said, all the laws for tribes people security will be implemented for sure. He also criticised the Congress led opposition for stalling the parliament in its functions. as a result developmental schemes for poor is suffering added.

Mr Modi will also address the 85th annual conference of the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha going on at Rupohi Pahar in Assam’s Sivsagar district. The General Secretary of the Organizing Committee said that Narendra Modi will be the first Prime Minister to attend the annual conference of the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha in its 85 years history.

Established in 1930, the Sangha has over 30 lakh members now. The Sangha has started Srimanta Sankardev Thrift and Credit Co-operative Society in 2009 which has bank balance of Rs 5 crore. The organization has urged the Centre to set up a skill development centre at Sivsagar.

Prime Minister is on a three-day visit to the states of Assam, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha from February 5 -7. Tomorrow, the Prime Minister will attend the International Fleet Review at Visakhapatnam besides visiting a maritime exhibition.

On Sunday, Mr. Modi will arrive in Bhubaneswar and dedicate to the nation the National Institute of Science Education and Research at Bhubaneswar. He will visit the Shri Jagannath Temple in Puri. In the afternoon, the Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation, the state of the art Indian Oil Refinery at Paradip. Security has been beefed up at Paradip IOCL Refinery and NISER and Puri ahead of Mr Modi’s visit to the State
