The suspended Agartala-Dhaka passenger bus Maitri resumed its bi-weekly service from Krishna Nagar Depot in Tripura, Friday. Officials of Tripura Road Transport Corporation, diplomats of Agartala based Visa office of Bangladesh among others saw off the passengers of the fully booked 35 seater Maitri.

The reciprocal bus service from Bangladesh, Shyamali, has already resumed its service. The services from both sides remained suspended for over a month due to violent and destructive agitation by political opposition in Bangladesh.

Tripura government, meanwhile, is trying to launch a direct Agartala- Kolkata bus service via Dhaka in near future. The Resident Commissioner of the State in New Delhi yesterday held discussion in this regard with the concerned authorities of the Union government.
