Bangladesh’s Met Office has warned of up to three low-pressure systems forming in the Bay of Bengal this month, one of which could intensify into a cyclone.
In its long-range forecast, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said normal rainfall is expected but cautioned of two to four days of heavy rain and possible flooding in northern and hill regions.
The southwest monsoon is expected to withdraw in early October, with temperatures gradually falling but staying slightly above average.
In September, rainfall was 20.8% below normal, with all divisions except Sylhet receiving less rain. The highest rainfall was 202mm in Tetulia on Sept 18, while the temperature peaked at 38°C in Sylhet on Sept 1.
