A US counter-terrorism expert has said, al-Qaeda is getting more active in the Indian subcontinent. A strategic expert Seth G Jones said this in his Congressional testimony before the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Counter-terrorism and Intelligence.
Mr Jones said by 2017, the group boasted several hundred members, with its cells mostly in Afghanistan and its operatives flourishing in Bangladesh.
He said Al- Qaida’s presence in Afghanistan was almost certainly larger and more expansive than five or even ten years before. Mr Jones said the expansion of the group is due to Taliban advances in Afghanistan and al-Qaida’s relationship with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and Lashkar-e Jhangvi.
