India today said, its strategic capabilities are not targeted against any particular country, in response to Chinese reaction to Agni-V, India’s Intercontinental Ballistic Missile. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said, India abides by all the applicable international obligations and hopes that all others will do the same. He said, New Delhi’s strategic autonomy and growing engagement contributes to strategic stability.
Earlier, reacting to media reports that the successful test of Agni-V was meant to target China, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said China hoped that India’s testing of the nuclear-capable complied with UN Security Council rules and safeguarded South Asia’s strategic balance. She also criticised media reports in India and outside referring to the Agni-5 as targeted at China saying China and India are not rivals but partners.
