Situation in Varanasi district jail in Uttar Pradesh, is now under control. After assurance from administration to look into their grievances, the prisoners freed the jail superintendent Ashish Tiwari and a deputy jailer, hostage for several hours in a barrack after violent clash occurred Saturday morning in the district jail premises.

The DIG jail confirmed that jail inmates were angry due to current functioning of jail and poor quality of food. Meanwhile district magistrate Rajmani Yadav has ordered magisterial inquiry in this matter.

Meanwhile charges from Jail superintendent and deputy jailer have also been handed over to other officers. According to police sources at least nine people including six jail officers and guards were injured the violent scuffle with prisoners.

Three jail inmates were also injured in this incident. The DIG jail said that heavy police force have been deployed in and around district jail to maintain law and order.
