Former Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ajit Pawar was grilled for about five hours in Mumbai Anti-Corruption Bureau yesterday. The case pertains to the alleged irregularities in irrigation projects in Raigad district during the Congress-NCP rule in the State.

Ajit Pawar and Sunil Tatkare, also former Water Resources Minister of Maharashtra, are under the scanner for allegedly awarding tenders to contractors by flouting norms .

It is alleged this resulted in massive cost escalation for Kondhaanne, Kaalu and Baalgangaa irrigation projects in Konkan region during their tenure.
The ACB had registered the first FIR in the irrigation scam in the month of August , booking 11 people in connection with alleged irregularities in awarding the contract for Baalgangaa dam.

Ajit Pawar is third leader from the NCP facing graft charges after Chhagan Bhujbal and Sunil Tatkare, in Maharashtra has also been facing the inquiry.
