A Mumbai court on Friday dismissed the plea of Lt. Col Prasad Purohit, an accused in 2008 Malegaon case, to hand over his custody to the army. Purohit, an army officer, is presently lodged in the Arthur Road jail in Mumbai filed an application stating that jail houses several gangsters and there is a threat to his life, so he should be transferred to the military jail.
Special Public Prosecutor Avinash Rasal argued in the court that if Army gets Purohit’s custody, it would be difficult to bring him to the court for every hearing, and it would delay the trial. Concurring with prosecution’s views, Special Judge S D Tekale for NIA cases, rejected Purohit’s request.
