Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot has dismissed opposition allegations that the NDA government is anti-reservations. In the Rajya Sabha, minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has, a number of times, assured that the Central reservations for Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes will continue.
Mr Gehlot described as historic the government’s decision to give Constitutional status to the National Commission for Backward Classes. He said this was pending for a long time. Not satisfied with the response by the Minister during Zero Hour, Samajwadi Party members trooped into the well of the House raising slogans. This forced Deputy Chairman P J Kurien to adjourn the house for ten minutes. The issue was raised by Ram Gopal Yadav of the Samajwadi Party.
