Prime Minister Narendra Modi today tried to negate the perception that his government is anti Dalit and anti poor saying his government is committed to the welfare of poor.
Mr Modi hit out at opponents for attacking him over the recent incidents of atrocities on Dalits in different parts of the country, saying they are not able to digest him as a Dalitwadi and disciple of Dr. B R Ambedkar.
In an exclusive interview to a private news channel, the Prime Minister condemned the incidents and said such things should not happen at any cost as they have no place in a civilized society.
“Shanti, Ekta aur Sdhbhavana” is our strength PM stressed.
He also termed the atrocities as a social problem and said playing politics on it will be against the interest of the people of the community which are facing injustice since decades.
Mr. Modi asserted that he is committed to the welfare of dalits, oppressed and women of the country. Citing the celebration of 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar, Mr. Modi said, people who assume themselves as self appointed guardian of some sections of society are actually not able to digest his pro-dalit thought and trying to create tension in the country. He alleged that such people are making reckless allegations against him and conspiring to put blame of selective things on his head.
Appealing to the political leaders including BJP, to stop making trivial comments on such incidents, the Prime Minister said they should not be insensitive over the issue of national unity and social harmony. On upcoming Uttra Pradesh assembly elections, the Prime Minister said BJP will fight the polls only on the issue of development.
Prime Minister also rejected the allegations made by opposition parties of political vendetta following the recent launch of investigations by the government in different cases. Mr. Modi said he has never been indulged in such acts nor he will do so in the future. He said, his record as Gujarat Chief Minister proves he doesn’t believe in political witch hunt.
On a question, whether the government would crack down political dynasties, Mr. Modi said since NDA came to power at centre, it has given no instructions to open any file and the law will take its own course in different matters. Recently, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi had accused the Prime Minister of playing vendetta politics. The Aam Aadmi Party has also been making same charges.
