Unseasonal rain and hailstorm in the past few days have damaged wheat crop in some parts of Punjab and Haryana. Agriculture Secretary Shobhana K Pattanayak talking to the reporters in New Delhi today said strong wind and rain have flattened the standing wheat crop at some places.
He however said no damage has been reported to mustard and gram crops so far.The secretary said the extent of loss to wheat and other rabi crops is being assessed by state governments.
The Secretary said in the wake of forecast of more rains this week, the Centre issued crop advisories three days ago to states and is keeping a close watch on the situation.
