French President Francois Hollande will be at the White House today, a day after meeting with British Prime Minister David Cameron, who pledged France new assistance for its air strikes against Islamic State militants in Syria. Mr Cameron yesterday said he would ask the British parliament for approval to join the fight against the militants, while offering up a British airbase in Cyprus for French fighter jets to launch their attacks on IS targets.
During today’s talks at the White House, the French leader is expected to press the American President Barack Obama to commit more assets in the fight against the IS, as Mr Hollande enlists international support for a coordinated attack on the militants. From Washington, Hollande will travel to Moscow later in the week for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
