Keeping in view the present protests in Punjab in the aftermath of the desecration of ‘Holy Granth’ at various places in the state, Shiroamni Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) Chief Avtar Singh Makkar has earnestly requested the people to maintain peace and communal harmony.

Addressing people through newspapers advertisements, Shri Makkar has said that the act of desecration has hurt the feelings of one and all. It has been done by mischivious and mentally handicapped anti-social elements to disturb peace in the state. He said and all of us have to be vigilant against them. He has also asked the police department and district administrations to be vigilant in their duties and take concrete steps to maintain the honour of the ‘Holy Granth’.

He has requested to all the socio-religious organizations to start ‘Akhand Paths’ on October 19th as repentance to the insult of the ‘holy granth’ and pray to the almighty for peace in the state.

Meanwhile, a section of Sikh religious organizations has announced that controlled protests would continue in every district for three hours till October 25. The protests have forced the railways to cancel 19 trains between Ferozepur, Amritsar and Jalandhar, yesterday.
