Leaders of the INDIA alliance partners will meet on April 12 to chalk out a strategy to counter the government’s move to introduce two constitutional amendments to the Women’s Reservation Act and the Delimitation Commission Act.
The Congress party has alleged that bringing these amendments in the midst of the upcoming Assembly elections is a clear violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
Meanwhile, the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the highest decision-making body of the Congress party, will meet tomorrow to discuss the upcoming Parliament session scheduled from April 16 to 18.
The government’s intention to pass amendments to the Women’s Reservation Act and the Delimitation Act has raised ethical concerns, as Assembly elections are due in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.
According to sources, the INDIA alliance is likely to approach the Election Commission of India (ECI) and raise objections to the government’s move to convene a Parliament session during the Assembly elections, stating that it violates the Model Code of Conduct.
