The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday removed M. Najmul Islam as chairman of its Finance Committee with immediate effect, following a boycott threat by players that disrupted domestic cricket.

In a media release, the BCB said the decision was taken by the board president under Article 31 of the constitution “in the best interest of the organisation” to ensure the “smooth and effective functioning of the Board’s affairs”. Until further notice, the BCB president will act as finance committee chairman.

The board said the “interests of the cricketers remain its highest priority” and reaffirmed its commitment to “upholding the honour and dignity of all players under its jurisdiction”. It urged players to maintain professionalism and continue participating in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) during what it called a “challenging period”.

The move comes after the Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) threatened to halt all cricketing activities unless Najmul stepped down, accusing him of making remarks that were “insulting and demeaning”. Players failed to report for domestic matches earlier in the day. The decision is seen as a bid to restore confidence and ensure continuity of the BPL season. Further talks between the BCB and CWAB are expected.
