The world is celebrating World Braille Day today to mark the celebration of its creator, Louis Braille. Braille is a code that enables the visually impaired to read with their fingertips using a system of six raised dots.

Braille was created in 1824 by a French boy named Louis Braille, who was born on the 4th of January in 1809. Today, Braille is used all over the world in many languages. Thousands of visually impaired people use Braille for everything from shopping lists to reading novels, solving maths problems, scientific equations, and learning music.

The National Federation of the Blind organised a function in New Delhi to commemorate the day. The federation also launched a joint Braille campaign named More Braille More Empowerment to uplift the visually impaired people and to provide them with their right to equality and life with dignity.

Talking to the media, General Secretary of the National Federation of the Blind, S K Rungta, said Braille helps in the inclusion of the visually impaired in society. He also highlighted the importance of Braille for the visually impaired. He emphasised that it has been about two hundred years since the creation of Braille.

Attorney General R Venkatramani also attended the event. Mr Venkatramani said that the Braille ensures equality, access to education, justice and full participation of persons with visual impairment in society. This day reminds the importance of accessibility and independence for those who are visually impaired or visually impaired.
