The winter session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly will begin today. Chief minister Mohan Majhi, who is also the finance minister, will present the supplementary budget for the 2024-25 financial year on the first day of the session, while the Appropriation Bill will be tabled on 5th of next month. The opposition Biju Janata Dal and Congress have decided to raise issues like deaths due to alleged mango kernel consumption, unemployment, rising cost of essential commodities and the poor law and order situation in the state during the session. The ruling BJP has said it is prepared to take on the opposition and discuss all the issues. Meanwhile, Speaker of the Odisha Assembly Surama Padhy who chaired an all party meeting in the Assembly premises at Bhubaneswar has urged the members to ensure smooth functioning of the house during the session.
