Could Be Due To Error In Sensor
India Meteorological Department has issued a clarification regarding Mungeshpur area in Delhi saying that temperature of 52.9 degree celsius could be due to error in the sensor at the automatic weather station or local factor. IMD is examining the data and sensors. It said that Mungeshpur reported 52.9 degree celsius as an outlier compared to other stations.
IMD has five major stations located in Safdarjung, Palam, Ayanagar, Ridge and Lodi Road which have been reporting observations since long period and they are referred to as climate stations. The long period data fulfilling all the exposure conditions are available from the five department observatories. IMD further directed that data from these five stations should be considered to find out trend and extremes.
Minister of Earth Sciences, Kiren Rijiju has clarified that the information regarding the highest temperature of Mungeshpur is not official yet. In a social media post, He said that the said temperature in Delhi is very unlikely. He further added, senior officials in IMD have been asked to verify the news report and the official position will be stated soon.
