Both the officials were found to be reached the spot too late in Meerut that led to the escalation of a minor violence into a major flare up. Incidents of stone pelting and arson had taken place after alleged misbehaviour with an Imam of mosque.
Talking to media, cabinet secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh said the DIG/ SSP had been placed under suspension for reaching the spot of the incident late. He said the district magistrate had also been transferred. Singh said the chief minister acted tough against the officers on the basis of a report that the Special DG had sought on the issue. Singh said the decision to suspend the DIG/SSP was taken to ensure immediate action on the part of officers in future.
Nearly 20 persons have been arrested for escalating violence in the city. Meanwhile, district administration has claimed that normalcy has been returning fast to normal in the town and all educational institutions were open.
at least 30 people, including 10 policemen, were injured in communal clash.
