Protesting the incident some members of the Muslim community took to the streets and torched some vehicles. People of the other community also came on the street and pelting of stone from both the side. As the news spread, tension gripped other areas with members of both communities indulging in arson and pelting stones at each other. Police had to use tear gas to disperse the violent mob.
According IG Meerut zone Rajni Kant Mishra the situation in some areas are tense but under control. He said that senior police officials were rushed to the spot and keeping close watch on the situation.
City SP Prabal Pratap Singh told media persons that 17 people have been arrested for arsoning and vandalism and police were looking for other miscreants.
