NEW DELHI: Both the Houses of Parliament have been adjourned for the day on Monday. The Rajya Sabha was adjourned following an obituary reference on the death of a sitting member M Rajsekara Murthy (JD-S) by the Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari. Murthy died on Sunday.

The Lok Sabha was first adjourned for an hour and later for the day on the opposition demand for a JPC probe into the 2G spectrum. As soon as the house met for the day, opposition members trooped into the well demanding a JPC probe into the 2G spectrum scam. The Speaker Mrs Meira Kumar, adjourned the house amidst din. When the house reassembled at 12 noon the opposition members again raised pitch in favour of their demand and trooped into the well of the house. The chair Ms. Girija Vyas adjourned the house for the day amid sloganeering by the agitating opposition members.

Amid the din and bustle Foward Contracts Regulation Bill, 2010 was introduced in the House by the Minister of State for Agriculture, Food and Consumer Affairs K.V. Thomas. The Forward Contracts (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2010 provides for conferring more statutory powers to the Forward Markets Commission. It is also proposes to increase the maximum number of members of Commission from four at present to nine, out of which three would be full time members. The bill, among other things, also confers powers upon the Central Government to issue directions to the Commission on matters of policy. Our correpondent reports, the House was not allowed to function for the 17th working day without transacting substantial legislative business.
