NEW DELHI: Vice President of India and Chairman, Rajya Sabha Muhammad Hamid Ansari on Monday made certain interesting and significant remarks before the US president Barrack Obama at central hall of the Indian parliament. Obama  heard him attentively.

While taking full liberty of democracy in advising the world oldest democracy, Vice president said: “As vibrant democracies we cherish the right to ‘disagree’ within a framework of our endeavour for the common good” adding that they were geographically removed from each other but face similar threats and challenges and have to be sensitive to each other’s concerns and critical interests.

Ansari also reminded that both the nations repose faith in John Rawls’ dictum that ‘rights secured by justice are not subject to political bargaining or to a calculus of social interests.’

He said that The United States and India had much to do together.

“Our areas of agreement are considerable, and expanding. We venture to hope that our two countries would work purposefully for an open world based on the principles of equity and dedicated to peace, freedom and prosperity for all people” he said.

Ansari appreciated Obama initiative to “seek the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons” and to take concrete steps towards it.  At the same time he also said: ‘We ourselves have been for long an advocate of non-discriminatory and universal nuclear disarmament” he said.

In her message the speaker of the Lok Sabha Meira Kumar said that Obama address to the parliament house has further strengthened the friendship between two nations.
