A Yoga workshop was conducted with adolescent girls of the Rohingya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar area by Harmony Trust ahead of the International Yoga Day 2023. The programme was organised as a special initiative at the Children and Adolescent Centre in Samitipara, and the Children and Adolescent Centre in Memberghata in Cox’s Bazar area. A total of 47 adolescent girls took part in the programme supported by Save the Children and in collaboration with the Bangladesh Institute of Theatre Arts.
Another Yoga event was conducted by Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) in Sawar, near Dhaka on Saturday with technical support from Harmony Trust. Youth leaders from 13 branches of YWCA participated in the workshop especially tailored for women. The event delved into various asanas, pranayam techniques and mudra, to empower each participant in their mind, body and spirit, said YWCA.
Street girl children will showcase their Yoga skills in Dhaka on the occasion of the IYD 2023 on 21st June. The street children have been trained in Yoga practices by the Harmony Trust. The aim of the event is to create awareness about the potential of Yoga for the health of the vulnerable girls and also to highlight it as a profession for community health workers to ease the pressure on the public health system. Another event will be held for the women workers of the Ready Made Garments (RMG) sector on the same day to address their physical and mental health concerns.
Earlier, one of Bangladesh’s popular Yoga institutions, Quantum Foundation, conducted a pre IYD Yoga event in the Kakrail area of Dhaka earlier this week. The program was conducted by Yoga teacher and Holistic health coach Ahmed Shariff. Addressing the participants Ahmed Shariff called Yoga as the ‘wisdom of our sub-continent’ which can help people to lead a stress free and disease free life.
