As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, Swami Vivekananda Vichar Manch, an institute based in Maharashtra’s Amravati district; had organized a competition to promote Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutation. According to the institute’s Chairman, Mr. Gajanan Maharaj Sharma, 176 people participated in the competition, practicing a total of one lakh, four thousand and 382 Sun Salutations.
Ram Mandekar finished first with 776 sun salutations followed by Jagdev Tothe, who performed 774 salutations. With India being a pioneer in promoting Yoga, it is essential to know that Surya Namaskar is a sequence of 12 powerful yoga poses. Besides being a great cardiovascular workout, Surya Namaskar is also known to have an immensely positive impact on the body and mind and hence a must for all.
