Postal ballot voting commenced from today and will continue till 8 February. 165 polling parties have been deployed for the purpose. In view of Covid, the Election commission has made provisions for voters above the age of 80 and persons with disabilities (more than 40%) to cast their votes from home through the facility of postal ballots

According to the Chief Electoral office of the state, special provisions have been made for those voters who are unable to step out of their homes. To avail of this facility, voters have to register with the returning officer, whereby a route chart will be prepared and election officers will go door-to-door to have these voters vote in their homes.

Rules have been formulated for postal balloting so as to ensure transparency in the process. To avail of the facility, voters should be on the voter list of the state and, have to apply with all the required details to the respective returning officer. Applications seeking postal ballot facility should reach the RO during the period from the date of announcement of election to five days following the date of notification of the election concerned

As per data available with the Office of the Chief electoral officer of Uttarakhand, out of total 82,37,913 voters in the state, 1,58,742 voters are above 80 years of age including 68,428 males and 90,312 females. The general voters with disability number 68,478 including 43,672 males and 24, 805 females.
