Mr Syed Vicaruddin , Editor the century old Urdu news paper “Rehnuma-e-Deccan ” passed away on Thursday night 9th December after a prolonged illness. He was 90 years old. He was a man of distinguished international prominence. He was also Chairman of Indo-Arab League.
An Aligarian, he was a popular figure in the Arab World. His brother Lateefuddin played a key role in uniting different Muslim groups in Hyderabad and maintained good relations with the Congress Party, especially late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He had passed away in 1985.
Vicaruddin never married. He is survived by two sisters– Sarwar Begum and Fazal Begum. The younger sister who lives in Canada had flown in a few days ago. His oldest sister Ruqayya Begum who was the wife of Akbar Ali Khan had passed away long time ago.
His last prayers were offered at Makkah Masjid near Charminar at around 1-30pm. He was laid to rest at the Ihata Hazrat Musa Quadri, near Puranapul.
With a progressive thought he always stood for its cause, his demise is a loss to issue base journalism particularly Urdu media. Indian Journalists Union paid a floral tribute to the, departed soul.
Several politicians, editors and media persons have condoled his demise and prayed for departed soul.
The president IJU K. Sreenivas Reddy recalled his services and expressed sympathy to the, bereaved family members. Y.Narender Reddy, Secretary, IJU, MA. Majid, Former member, Press Council of India, K,Virahath Ali, General Secretary Telangana State Union of Working Journalists also condole the death of Mr Syed Vicaruddin.
Telangana CM, Haryana Governor express deep sorrow
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday expressed deep sorrow over the tragic demise of Syed Vicaruddin. In a press release, Chief Minister expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and hailed Syed Vicaruddin’s services in the fi eld of journalism
In his message Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya said the demise of Syed Vicaruddin saddened him very much. He was a senior most Journalist, democrat, and a truly secular person, the Governor said.
Vicaruddin invited former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for a conference on Indo-Arab Relationship Summit in 1978-79 and he is very much committed to values, Dattatreya said.
As the Chief Editor of Rahnuma-E-Deccan Urdu daily newspaper, Vicaruddin served the cause of people’s issues and he was very much a close associate to me, he said. During his tenure as Union Minister, the Senior Journalist used to take up issues with him and strived for the solutions in such a way we were closely associated,
the Governor said.
Condolences also came from Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, MLA Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, Ex-Minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir, ExMLA Marri Shashidhar, Reddy, and Ex-MP Aziz,Pasha among others.
Palestinian Ambassador pay last respects to Syed Vicaruddin on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas
Palestinian Ambassador to Indian Adnan Abu Al Haija landed in Hyderabad early Friday to pay last respects to Syed Vicaruddin on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas. The Ambassador participated in ‘Namaz-e-Janazah. He paid his visit to Dargah Hazrath Syed Shah Moosa Quadri (R.H.) where Vicaruddin was laid to rest
in the Dargah Premises.
In this message, Adnan Abu Al Haija said: “I extend my sincere condolences on behalf of
the Palestinian government and people for the untimely death of Syed Vicaruddin, a figure worthy of respect and appreciation for his ultimate support for the Palestinian cause.”
