Newly appointed Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Radha Krishna Mathur has said that he is working on a Development Package for Union Territory of Ladakh to ensure all-round and speedy development in every possible sector.

Mr Mathur said, the UT Administration will start to take decisions at the earliest. He made his maiden public address as Lieutenant Governor of the newly created UT in the Ladakh’s annual festival Spalnams Duston, in Leh on Friday.

Lieutenant Governor Mathur said that International community along with entire nation is keenly looking at success from the Ladakh experiment.

Mr Mathur said, Ladakh has been granted Union Territory status with a twin motive of achieving progress of the region and protection of its culture and heritage. He also said, entire country sent best wishes to Ladakh in the form of UT.

While allaying the fears of public on certain issues, LG Mathur appealed the Ladakh society to grab the opportunities associated with the UT and move forward with objectivity. He also appealed that it is everyone’s responsibility to understand the challenges and move on developmental path.

Mr Mathur ensured that the new regime will ensure the transmission of peoples’ aspirations for the region with right perspective to the Centre to speed-up the decision implementation process.

On the occasion, LG Mathur presented Ladakh Spalnams Duston Award to former MP Thupstan Chhewang for his three- decade long movement to attain UT status for Ladakh.

Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal assured the public that the Union Government would ensure no harm to the rights of Ladakh people. LAHDC CEC Gyal P Wangyal, Executive Councillors, religious leaders and public in huge numbers have participated in the celebrations.

During the day, Spalnams Duston celebrations began at Leh Palace. A procession of Ladakh King and Queen riding on horses along with CEC, MP and other dignitaries led to Leh-Manali Highway. CEC Gyal P Wangyal unveiled the statue of great Ladakh King Singhe Namgyal amidst Buddhist religious rituals. The statue was sponsored by the oldest and biggest Hemis Monastery.
