Assam government will launch Wage Compensation Scheme for Pregnant Women in tea gardens of the state today. Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal will launch the scheme in Guwahati.

State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the scheme will provide better health and nutrition supplements to the pregnant women.

An amount of Rs. 12,000 will be given to the pregnant woman so that she could take care of herself and unborn baby without compromising the livelihood of her family.

Over 60,000 women are likely to be benefited by the scheme. The compensation of wages to pregnant women will be given in 4 instalments.

The scheme is likely to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality in the tea areas.
