South Korean President Moon Jae-in says he hopes and expects the summit between the leaders of the US and North Korea will be a success.
Moon told presidential aides on Monday that he hopes the summit will result in a major breakthrough in terms of ending deep-rooted hostilities and resolving the North Korean nuclear issue.
But he also said he doesn’t expect those issues to be resolved after one meeting, adding that it may involve a process that lasts years.
Moon said South Korea cannot rely only on dialogue between the US and North Korea, and stressed the need to concurrently develop inter-Korean relations.
He called for creating a positive cycle so that improved inter-Korean ties lead to better US-North Korean relations.
Also on Monday, an official of the South Korean presidential office indicated that Moon is unlikely to visit Singapore during the Trump-Kim summit.
