After Huge protest march in Patna and Malegaon, thousands of Muslim women in Jaipur on Wednesday also held a silent protest rally ‘against’ triple talaq Bill which is pending in Rajya Sabha.

The streets of the walled city were full burqa clad women demanding roll back of the controversial Bill. They said that according to Shariyat the divorce among Muslims is purely a social matter like in other communities,

Led by All India Muslim Personal Law Board’s member Yasmeen Farooqui, women carrying placards demanded that the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2017, be withdrawn by the Central Government.

The rally began from Chardarwaj and culminated at Muslim Musafir Khana.

“Muslim women are against the Bill and the protest rally sent out a strong message to the government to not interfere in the religious rights guaranteed by the Constitution,” a memorandum submitted to the Governor said.

“It is important to hold such protest in a BJP-ruled state where they have created propaganda that Bill is reformatory. The Bill gives special power to state to imprison Muslim men for up to three years for pronouncing triple talaq. Is it not ironical that on August 22, 2017, the Supreme Court banned triple talaq. So the point is when it is banned or not legal how can you put somebody in jail for giving triple talaq”, she told reporters.

Quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s repeated assertion that the law on triple talaq will change the face and condition of Muslim women in the society and family, she said, “If at all Modiji is concerned for the Muslim women lets grant us reservation like other marginalised communities. I assure him Muslims will empower socially and financially”.

According to Shariyat the divorce among Muslims is purely a social matter like in other communities, Farooqui said. Similar protest march were also held in Malegaon , Patna and many other places.
