3 Service Chiefs pay homage at Amar Jawan Jyoti

The 70th Army Day is being celebrated today. Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, Chief of the Naval Staff Sunil Lanba and Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa paid tribute at Amar Jawan Jyoti in Delhi this morning.

On the occasion, Chief of Army staff General Bipin Rawat has reviewed the parade at Cariappa Parde Ground in Delhi Cantonment. He also presented 15 Sena medals including five of them posthumously.

President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra have greeted to all soldiers, veterans and their families on the Army Day. In his message, Mr Kovind said you are our nation’s pride, the sentinels of our liberty. He said, citizens, sleep securely knowing that they are ever awake and ever vigilant.

Mr Modi said, every citizen of India has unwavering trust and pride in the Army, which protects the nation and is also at the forefront of humanitarian efforts during times of natural disasters and other accidents. He said, Army always puts the nation first. The Prime Minister saluted all those great individuals who sacrificed their lives while serving the nation. Mr Modi said the country will never forget the valiant heroes.

Every year on this day, the ‘Army Day’ is celebrated to commemorate the day when General (later Field Marshal) K.M Carriappa took over the command of Army from General Sir F.R.R Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief in 1949 and became the first Commander-in-Chief of Indian Army post Independence.
