The election for first phase of Panchayati Raj Institutions in Haryana,has completed peacefully except some stray incidents today. Haryana State Election Commissioner Rajeev Sharma said that this time a record 80 percent polling has been registered. He said that polling at some polling booths is still continuing as those who were inside the polling booths at 4PM have been allowed to cast their vote. In villages of Panchkula, 90.7 perecent polling is recorded which is a record and lowest is 58.8 percent in Palwal district.
One person was reportedly killed in a clash between two groups and about a dozen people were injured at Ratti village in Palwal district. The election for the post of Sarpanch in Kasar village of Jhajjar district has been cancelled due to complaint of defect in electronic voting machine at booth number 130, the polling will take place on 12th of January now. The State Election Commissioner said that there is a report of attempt to damage the EVM machine at Punhana village of Mewat, the commission has yet to decide about repoll here.
