voting biharA record fifty five 55% turnout has been registered in the second phase of Assembly elections in Bihar. The polling is higher as compared to 2010 Assembly and last year’s Lok Sabha elections in these constituencies. The election was held in 32 Assembly constituencies spread over 6 districts of the State during this phase.

Briefing media in New Delhi, Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha said the polling was most peaceful including in the Naxal infested areas. Mr Sinha said an overwhelming response was seen among the female voters who outnumbered male voters. He said, the female voter turnout stood at 57.5 per cent against 52.5 per cent for male voters.

The Deputy Election Commissioner said voter’s boycotted polls in 13 polling stations in different areas. Giving the break up of district wise poll percentage, Mr Sinha said, Kaimur registered 57. 86 per cent, Rohtas 54.66 per cent, Arwal 53.21 per cent, Jehanabad 56.49 per cent , Aurangabad 52.50 per cent and Gaya 55.54 per cent.

Bihar Chief Electoral Officer Ajay Nayak said highest 58 percent voting was recorded in Kaimur district. In Naxal affected 23 constituencies polling was trouble free.

Poll to the remaining three phases will be held between 28 th of this month and 5th of the next month. Counting will be held on 8th November. The term of the current Assembly expires on 29th November.
