5 detained in connection with Delhi blast

An email reportedly sent by the radical group Harkat-ul Jihad al-Islami (Huji) claiming it planted the bomb has been traced to the cyber cafe.

Another email claiming responsibility, and purportedly sent by the Indian Mujahideen, is also being examined by security agencies. The wording and spelling of email allegedly sent by Indian Mujahideen is very suspicious as the very spelling of the organization is wrongly spelt.

The mail claimed that another blast will take place at a shopping mall.

Meanwhile the death toll from the blast rose to 13 after a critically injured man died in hospital

In Jammu a police team led by the DIG of the area along with some computer experts questioned the detained people by several hours.

It was traced that the e-mail was sent from Kishtwar district, once a hub of HuJi militants.

The NIA has announced a reward of five lakh rupees for any information from the general public about the blast culprits.

Home Secretary RK Singh on Thursday said in New Delhi that shrapnel was used in the blast to maximise the impact and casualties.

On Wednesday, officials had claimed that shrapnel was not used in the blast as it was carried out using pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), which is a plastic explosive. Mr. Singh has also received the preliminary forensic report on the blast.

The NIA and the Delhi police have ruled out the angle of the Santro car being used in the incident. Home secretary RK Singh said that the car had nothing to do with the incident. The car was merely a subject of dispute between two people.

Sources said as of now nothing was being left to chance and the origin of the mail was being ascertained and, if need be, the service provider would also be contacted. Talking to reporters in New Delhi secretary internal security U.K.Bansal said, the agencies are seriously examining the purported IM email.

In a related incident, National Investigation Agency chief S C Sinha on Thursday met Delhi Police Commissioner B K Gupta and discussed modalities about investigation into the blast.

A team of NIA officials also interacted with Special Cell officials of Delhi police. The probe into the blast was handed over by Government to the NIA on Wednesday and the agency has already formed a 20-member for the purpose.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the blast has risen to 12 after a victim succumbed to his injuries early this morning. Ninety-one people have been injured and some of them face amputation due to injuries caused by shrapnel.

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram chaired a meeting of the chiefs of the Research and Analysis Wing, Intelligence Bureau and NIA Thursday morning to review the security situation.

The Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister and Union Home Secretary visited Dr. Ram Manohar Hospital on Thursday and met those injured in the bomb blast which took place at Delhi High Court on Wednesday.

The visited the hospital on the direction of the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh. An official release said, a total of 57 persons were brought to the hospital out of which 9 were dead and 3 died during the treatment.

There are a total of 33 patients undergoing treatment in the hospital. 19 of them are in the ICU.

They reviewed the existing arrangements in the hospital and met their relatives who have expressed satisfaction over the care being taken by the hospital staff and administration.

It has been decided that Facilitation Team will be placed in the RML Hospital to coordinate between hospital authorities and kins of injured.

A Control Room known as Emergency Medical Relief Unit has been set up and made functional by the Ministry of Health to help out people seeking information on patients admitted in various hospitals in New Delhi consequent to Wednesday’s bomb blast .

The control room can be contacted at numbers 23061302 and 23061469. This is in addition to control rooms functioning at RML and other hospitals.
