The death toll of army men has reached ten in two different incidents of avalanche hitting Army Camp and Army patrol in the Gurez sector of Bandipora district in Jammu and Kashmir,. Defence spokesman told media that an avalanche struck an army camp in Gurez Sector yesterday.
The rescue operations were immediately launched in extreme bad weather and heavy snow fall. The spokesman said, the search operation enabled rescue of one Junior commissioned officer and six soldiers. However, three soldiers were buried alive in the incident. The spokesman said, seven other soldiers were killed in another incident when snow avalanche hit the Army patrol in the same area yesterday. He said, ten bodies of the deceased were recovered today and five more soldiers are still untraced.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the death of soldiers. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, he has directed the authorities for speedy search and rescue operations.
