At least nine people died, and 24 others were injured after explosion in car near Gate No. 1 of Delhi’s Red Fort (Lal Qila) Metro Station on Monday evening. The car went up on flames and several other nearby cars were also gutted. After the blast, the national capital has been put on high alert.
According to eyewitnesses, the intensity of the blast was so powerful that the street lights in the vicinity went off.
“Today at around 6.52PM, a slow-moving vehicle stopped at the red light. An explosion happened in that vehicle, and due to the explosion, nearby vehicles were also damaged. All agencies are working together. Some people have died, while some have been injured in the incident,” said Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha.
According to the Delhi Fire Department, a call about the explosion was received around 6:55 pm, after which seven fire tenders and 15 CAT ambulances were rushed to the spot. The fire spread to other nearby vehicles, five to six of which were gutted before firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control.
According to sources, a high alert has been sounded across the national capital. This development comes a day after a massive terror module with nearly 2,900 kg of bomb-making material was busted.

Seven fire tenders were initially rushed to the explosion site after the Delhi Fire Department received a call regarding the explosion around 7 pm. Security has been increased at sensitive religious sites, districts, and border areas. Meanwhile, all security agencies have also been alerted.
Following the blast, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with the Delhi Police Commissioner. Teams from the NSG, NIA, and the forensic department were immediately rushed to the spot. The Home Minister is in continuous touch with the IB Director regarding the Delhi incident, reports added.

Senior officers, including the DCP of the Special Cell, have reached the site to supervise the investigation.
Several states, including Delhi, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Kolkata have been put on high alert with security checks underway.
Talking to Akashvani News, the Delhi Fire Service said that they received a call about the incident at around 6:55 PM. It said that seven fire tenders were dispatched to the scene to control the blaze. They added that one or two nearby cars also caught fire as a result of the explosion.
Talking to the media, Deputy Chief Fire Officer AK Malik said that they got the information about the blast in a car near Chandni Chowk Metro Station, and seven units were sent to the spot. He added that at 7:29 PM, the fire was brought under control, and the teams are present at the spot.
Senior Delhi police officials have also reached the site. Meanwhile, quoting sources, news agency ANI said that multiple casualties have been brought to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) hospital after the explosion. Several injured were also rushed to the Hospital.
