Accusing government of being Anti dalit, BSP Chief Mayawati today resigned from the Rajya Sabha. She alleged that she was not allowed to speak in the House on issues of Dalit atrocities. She accused the treasury benches of not allowing her to raise the issue.

Earlier, in and outside the Rajya Sabha, she had threatened that she will quit the membership saying if she cannot raise the voices of the weaker sections, what is the use of her being in the House.

Mayawati said, she had given adjournment motion to speak about the atrocities against Dalits including recent violent incidents in Saharanpur.

However, the ruling party members did not allow her to raise the issue. The BSP Chief alleged that atrocities against Dalits and weaker sections have increased in the BJP-ruled states.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi rejected her allegation that she was not allowed to speak.

Talking to media, he said, Ms Mayawati is making allegations out of frustration following her recent poll defeats. He said, she was given chance to speak but she chose to use inappropriate words against the Chair.

Mayawati is due to retire from Rajya Sabha in April next year.

BJP described the resignation of Mayawati from the Rajya Sabha as her frustration following debacles in recent polls.

Talking to media in New Delhi, party leader Bhupendra Yadav accused Mayawati of not giving due respect to the chair in the Rajya Sabha and not raising the issue with Parliamentary dignity.

Mayawati likely to contest by elections to be held in Phoolpur in Uttar Pradesh.
