United States has said it believes that warmer relations and more cooperation between the governments of India and Pakistan will be in the interests of both the countries. White House Press Secretary, Josh Earnest, told reporters at his daily news conference.
He, however, added that ultimately leaders of both the countries will have to decide for themselves. Mr Earnest was responding to questions on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Lahore and the terror strike at the Pathankot air base, which appeared to have originated from Pakistan. Responding to another question, the spokesman said it is in own interest of Pakistan to fight extremism and fight terrorist organisations that are operating inside its own territory.
