The Assam State Election Commission has made its mandatory of having a usable toilet and a two-child norm for all aspiring candidates of the upcoming panchayat polls.
State Election Commissioner Harendra Nath Bora in an interview to AIR said that the decision of making a usable toilet compulsary has been taken to make cleanliness a priority in society.
Mr Bora said, candidates having more than two children, except in exceptional cases, would not be eligible to contest the polls. He also said, voters not listed in NRC draft list would not be barred from exercising their voting rights.
The panchayat polls in Assam would be held in two phases on the 5th and 9th of the next month.
The State Election Commissioner said, 50 percent seats would be reserved for women.
