A UN Security Council team has met Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, who fled from neighbouring Myanmar to escape violence.
The delegation visited refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, southern Bangladesh yesterday and asked refugees about violence in Myanmar and their lives in the camps. In a press conference, the UN team said it may take time to allow refugees to return to their home country and asked Bangladesh and Myanmar to ensure their safe repatriation at an early date.

The inspection group will visit Myanmar today and meet with government officials. The team is scheduled to inspect preparations for repatriation in the western state of Rakhine. A UN estimate shows that more than 690,000 Rohingya residents fled into Bangladesh since fighting broke out last August.
