Union Home Secretary L.C. Goyal arrived in Srinagar on a two day visit to Jammu & Kashmir to take a review of security situation in the State including arrangements put in place for the 59 day Amarnath Yatra commencing on 2nd July. Home Secretary reviewed the internal security situation in the State particularly the situation arising after attacks in North Kashmir’s Sopore town and other related matters. Counter-infiltration and counter-insurgency operations in the Valley were also reviewed.

He is likely to call upon Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to discuss the issues with them. AIR Correspondent reports that Mr. L.C. Goyal stressed upon the security officials to ensure fool proof security on all routes that includes traditional Chandanwari Pahalgam, forward base camps at Nunwan Pahalgam and Baltal Ganderbal, Jammu based Yatri Niwas Base Camp and National Highways from Lakhanpur to Srinagar, till Holy Cave for peaceful conduct of Amarnath Yatra. About 70 companies of para-military forces have been given out by Union Home Ministry. On 24 of this month, two top officers of Home Affairs had also visited Kashmir to review security arrangements for Amarnath Yatra with State Police Chief K. Rajendra. Home Secretary is scheduled to visit Yatra base camps at Nunwan and Pahalgam in South Kashmir tomorrow and also undertake on-spot review of the security and other arrangements for the Amarnath pilgrims.
