The United Nations has honoured peacekeepers, who lost their lives while serving under the UN flag around the globe. A wreath-laying ceremony in honour of all men and women who lost their lives in peacekeeping operations worldwide was held at UN headquarters in New York.
UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, presiding over the ceremony said, Peacekeeping remains the flagship of the United Nations enterprise. He urged to work together to enable complex operations to succeed with rapid, effective, efficient and responsible support. More than 3,400 United Nations peacekeepers have died since 1948.
