US President Donald Trump has shared a map depicting the Strait of Hormuz as the Trump Strait after rejecting an Iranian seven-day framework aimed at reopening the strategically vital waterway.
According to media reports, Trump reiterated that Iran would not be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon, expressed doubts over Tehran’s willingness to comply with his demands, and warned that the possibility of renewed US military strikes against Iran remained high.
Iran had earlier proposed a seven-day process under which hostilities would cease on all fronts. In return, the United States would lift its blockade of Iranian ports, release frozen Iranian funds, and waive oil-related sanctions. The proposal also called for the Strait of Hormuz to be reopened.
The move follows the suspension of Iranian flights at Iraqi airports after the United States warned that companies and airports providing services to Iranian carriers could face sanctions.
