US President Donald Trump has reportedly rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end hostilities in the region, even as Iran awaits an official US response to its plans. An American Newspaper reported about Trump’s views, quoting US officials.
Iran had earlier proposed a seven-day process under which hostilities would end on all fronts, while the United States would lift its blockade on Iranian ports, release frozen Iranian funds and waive oil sanctions. The Strait of Hormuz would then be reopened as per this proposal.
Iraq is seeking an exemption for some of its airports from the USA’s sanctions policy affecting Iranian airlines. Iraqi PM’s Media Office has posted on X that their government is conducting direct dialogue with the American side to exempt some Iraqi airports from these measures, in a manner that allows the resumption of air travel, for humanitarian reasons related to treatment, study, religious visits, and civilian interests. The move comes after Iranian flights were suspended at Iraqi airports amid the US threat of sanctions against companies and airports providing services to Iranian carriers.
Earlier today, Yemen’s Saudi-led coalition said that it had intercepted two ballistic missiles and two drones launched by the Houthis towards Saudi Arabia. The coalition said the missiles were headed towards Khamis Mushait and the drones towards Riyadh. The latest attacks came hours after the military chiefs of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkiye met in Riyadh to review threats facing Saudi Arabia. The three countries had signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement on August 7, 2026, stipulating that an armed attack on any one of the three countries would be regarded as an attack on all three.
