The total Foodgrain production in the country is estimated at record 295.67 million tonnes in the 2019-20 crop year which is higher by 10.46 million tonnes from previous year. Agriculture Ministry today released the 3rd Advance Estimates of production of major crops for 2019-20. The total production of Rice during 2019-20 is estimated at around 118 million tonnes.
It is higher by over eight million tonnes than the five years’ average production. Besides, the production of Wheat is estimated at record over 107 million tonnes. It is higher by 3.58 million tonnes as compared to previous year. The total production of Pulses is estimated at over 23 million tonnes which is higher by 2.19 million tonnes than the five years’ average production.
The Ministry said, the cumulative rainfall in the country during the monsoon season June to September, 2019 has been 10 per cent higher than Long Period Average. Accordingly, the production of most of the crops for the agricultural year 2019-20 has been estimated higher than their normal production.
