Chennai in Tamil Nadu is witnessing less than a thousand new cases of Covid-19 every day for the past six days continuously. Its active caseload has come down to nearly 11 thousand. It is about 20.7 per cent of the total active caseload in Tamil Nadu.
Many frontline warriors have contributed to the coming down of active Covid-19 cases in Chennai. One such important group of warriors is the post graduate medicos.
In Chennai, hundreds of post graduate student doctors were deployed in Covid-19 wards and care centres besides in other disciplines like trauma centres. Some of them contracted the SARSCov-2 virus in the process.
However, they bounced back to work immediately after the recovery and the mandatory quarantine.
They have been relieved of their clinical duties, as they are awaiting their examinations now, says the Madras Medical College Dean Dr E.Therani Rajan. ”People who are doing MD General Medicine, MD Anesthesiology, MD Chest Medicine, those PG’s have contributed the maximum in managing the Covid patients. They were the first frontline doctors to treat the Covid patients in our hospitals. Their involvement and dedication is well appreciated. They were working continuously for seven days and seven days were quarantine period. After that they were posted in non-Covid.”
The service might have also helped the student PG doctors in gaining a lot of hands-on knowledge about the challenges thrown out by the new and elusive virus. The selfless service of the post graduate medicos would be remembered with gratitude by all.
